Category: 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 - Difficulty: 🟠

Sign up for an outdoor radio activity program and make a successful activation or hunt at least 10 stations!

There is a plethora of outdoor activity programs these days: SOTA, POTA, COTA, IOTA and even Toilets On The Air (though this mostly happens indoors HI). Chose one that you didn't yet sign up for and complete the challenge. How does it work? Was it easy to make contacts? Which references did you activate or hunt?

February 15, 2026 17:44 UTCchemichael@mastodon.hams.social5Success!Activated Mount Vernon today for George Washington’s 294th birthday as part of my radio club, K4US. Bands were terrible, but had some great QSOs! HC12S #hamchallenge @hamchallenge
March 13, 2026 12:22 UTCmischk@bunt.social7Success!@hamchallenge there is a new outdoor activity program in OK, OM SP, DL and OE: Towers On The Air. So I signed up and activated my first tower in Berlin: Wolkenhain at Kienbergpark; at the same time POTA Park Kienbergpark and GMA Kienberg. HC12S #amateurradio #pota #tota #gma
March 20, 2026 20:46 UTCDF1CN@social.darc.de5Success!I did a small activation of my home park yesterday. At least that was the plan. Getting the 10 QSOs required for an activation took 2 hours. Well that was partly my fault because I hadn't had enough wire for an 40m Endfed. I tried everything SSB, FT8 and CW. What worked in the end was just doing CW on 40m. SWR was infinity. But the transceiver said, that it outputs one watt. That was enough for the three QSOs so that I could finally leave the park. Thanks for all the hunters that had the patience to deal with my terrible CW. @hamchallenge HC12S #amateueradio #pota
March 22, 2026 21:03 UTCbgarfoot@kind.social4Working on it...@hamchallenge Well, darn. Looks like HC12 will be a fail for me this week, as I've been too busy to get out and do a POTA this week, and band conditions look terrible to try and hunt today. Not to say I won't do plenty of POTA in the future, just didn't pan out this week.
