Category: 📻 - Difficulty: 🟠

How low can you can you go in QRP Part II

Earlier you tried the lower bands using QRP and now the challenge is to use as little power as you can to make a successful QSO. How far did you get? Which band and mode did you use? Which rig and most importantly: How low did you go?

January 02, 2026 18:45 UTCqrper@mastodon.radio1Success!Those first 6 contacts? They were made with the IC-705 set to 0% power output. (By accident, of course). I haven't measured it yet to determine what 0% power is on the '705 (I will for sure), but I'm going to call it for the @hamchallenge for HC09S! 😆
February 24, 2026 09:21 UTCDF1CN@social.darc.de4Success!A few days @dj4ram suggested on the #draussenfunker Discord to try out JT9. This quickly turned into a who can go lower challenge. The attached image shows my transmission with just 8dBm received by DJ4RAM. HC09S #hamchallenge @hamchallenge
February 28, 2026 14:16 UTCbgarfoot@kind.social1Success!Well, finally getting back into the @hamchallenge again this week. And what a way to do it - with one of my favorite challenges. I turned my IC-705 down to 1% output, which should be ~100mW output. Made contacts with KQ4ZCH (722 km) on 30m and AA2T (1140 km) on 20m. Then, inspired by @qrper , I turned the power down to an indicated 0%, which I guess does still output ~50mW or so. Made contact (barely!) with NW1L (1560 km).
